Diagnostic criteria overview

  • Criterion a: persistent restriction, bingeing, or compensatory behaviours
  • Criterion b: disturbances in body weight, shape, or food intake
  • Criterion c: clinically significant impairment or distress

Symptoms

  • Anorexia nervosa: restriction of energy intake leading to low body weight, intense fear of weight gain
  • ARFID: avoidance of certain foods due to sensory characteristics or fear of adverse consequences
  • Bulimia nervosa: recurrent binge eating with compensatory behaviours such as vomiting or excessive exercise
